Visual Tone Representation for Music Class
Problem Description
There are tuners and apps for rhythm development in music, but no great app for helping to establish good (and also varied) tone on an instrument. The visuals of a tuner help students to comprehend pitch quickly, but the equivalent for tone quality, dynamic changes, articulation visuals, etc. do not exist at all.
Proposed Solution
A visual representation of tone on any instrument, like a visual of the harmonic series and which overtones are emphasized, etc. If it is possible, it would be great to have some example visuals (with sound) to show some different options for each instrument (Eg. More of the treble overtones are heard clearly for a bright twangy sound). Having a live tracker that shows differences between dynamics and articulations would be terrific. Students able to visually see the shape of a melody and its expression as they play (and also leaving a record of that line to look over afterward) will be building the skills of interpreting their own playing and listening from outside of their own head, as they learn to compare what they think they are doing versus what is being perceived.
