Grocery/Shopping Simulation

Problem Description

Students need a life simulation tool for consumer awareness and shopping. Since field trips to the store are not possible and open internet searches are not ideal. Program or app would need to run on a Chromebook.

Proposed Solution

The students could benefit in consumer awareness by practicing using a (student friendly) “grocery store” type app/program to help them comparison shop (generic or name brand), calculate unit prices, check out, calculate sales taxes, apply coupons, or discounts.

It would also be helpful as the teacher to have access to their “account” to access knowledge and usage. The teacher could change the prices, add sales, or other promotions to make the simulation more realistic and not static. The teacher could give students a specific grocery or shopping list and budget to follow to determine their consumer skills.

A virtual “mall” for multiple imaginary retail stores to “shop” could work too,(clothing, hardware, shoes, electronic, jewelry, furniture or department store) for students to make multiple purchases on a budget.
